Pettisville led 24-17 at halftime and outscored Edon 14-8 in the fourth quarter to beat the Bombers 51-38 in a Buckeye Border Conference boys basketball matchup, Thursday, Dec. 13, in the Bird Cage.

With PHS (3-2, 2-0 BBC) leading 8-7 after one, Edon’s Kaden Sapp hit a threepointer to open the second period, giving the Bombers their only lead of the night, 10-8.

Pettisville went on a 10-0 run for an 18-8 advantage on back-to-back fast break buckets by Kurt Siegel, a deuce by Dominic Frey, a bucket by Jacob Valdez after a steal, and a David Reyes basket.

Reid Bowling broke Pettisville’s run with a pull-up jumper with 2:27 left in the half.

Tanner Rufenacht gave PHS a 24-14 lead with a bucket and 19 seconds on the clock. But instead of taking a 10-point lead into the locker room, it was only seven as Sapp drained a trey from the corner at the buzzer for Edon, closing the difference to 24-17.

Edon (2-3, 0-2 BBC) came within three, 26-23, in the third period, but the Birds extended the difference to nine, 32-23, on baskets by Valdez, Reyes, and two by Dykstra.

With both teams scoring 13 points in the third, Pettisville took a 37-30 lead into the final eight minutes.

Edon didn’t score until almost four minutes were gone in the final period. By that time the Birds led 46-32, and PHS went on to a 51-38 victory.

Sapp was the only scorer in double figures, with 16.

Valdez, Frey, and Korben Rychener led PHS with eight points each.
