Birds Blow Out PH, Win Battle Of Undefeateds Against Ottawa Hills

The Pettisville boys basketball team stayed perfect at 7-0 with two non-league victories last week.

The Birds hosted Patrick Henry, Tuesday, Dec. 30. Using a big first quarter, Pettisville coasted to a 74-39 win.

PHS traveled to Ottawa Hills, Friday, Jan. 2, for a matchup with the undefeated Green Bears. Pettisville used a 25- point fourth quarter to win 68- 53, dropping Ottawa Hills to 6-1 on the season.

Pettisville started out on fire, scoring 26 points to the Patriots’ five with 1:50 left in the first quarter.

PH went on a 6-0 run to end the quarter down 26-11.

Pettisville continued the pace in the second quarter, scoring 21 points to PH’s seven for a 47-18 lead going into the locker room.

The Patriots cut into the defi- cit in the third quarter, outscoring the Birds 11-9 to cut the gap to 27, 56-29, going into the final quarter. PHS outscored the Patriots 18-10 in the final quarter for the 74-39 final.

Pettisville was 10/16 in threepoint shots and 28/46 from the field overall for 61%. Patrick Henry was 14/48 from the field, including 4/14 from three-point land, for 29%.

Jordan Klopfenstein led the Birds, who had 10 of 11 players score, with 16 points. Michael Deffely and Quinn Nofziger each scored 15; Michael Haase chipped in 10.

PHS 68, Ottawa Hills 53

Ottawa Hills jumped out to a 13-4 lead before Klopfenstein hit a jumper from the top of the key to cut the lead to 13-6.

Both teams added six more points in the quarter to give the Green Bears a 19-12 lead.

Pettisville tightened its defense in the second, holding Ottawa Hills to six points while scoring 13 to tie the game at 25 at halftime.

The Birds outscored the Green Bears 18-17 to hold a one-point lead, 43-42, going into the final quarter.

Nofziger took over in the fourth, scoring 13 of his gamehigh 27 points. Pettisville scored 25 in the fourth, while the Green Bears scored only 11 for the 68-53 final.

Nofziger was the only Bird in double figures, while Phillip Beans led Ottawa Hills with 15.

Pettisville shot 12/13 from the foul line, including 5/5 in the fourth quarter, while OH was 6/10 from the foul line in the game, including 0/2 in the final quarter.
