The Pettisville volleyball team (16-7) disposed of Stryker in three games, 25-18, 25-15, 25-13, in a Division IV district semifinal at Pettisville, Tuesday, Oct. 21.
The Birds jumped out to a 16- 7 lead in the first game. After a Stryker time-out with PHS leading 20-11, the Panthers’ Brooke Ruffer dinked the ball to give a point and the serve back to Stryker.
However, an illegal substitution by Stryker gave PHS a point and the serve right back with a 21-12 lead.
Karina Rohrer-Meck put PHS at game point, 24-18, with an ace. Haley Nofziger finished off the first game with a dink.
The Birds jumped out to another large lead, 16-9, in the second game. The Panthers closed the gap to four points at 18-14, when H. Nofziger’s kill gave the serve back to PHS.
Stryker was down 22-15 and had the serve, but Stephanie Yoder’s kill got the serve back on Pettisville’s side. After PHS scored again to put the score at game point, 24-15, Katie Weber hit a spike that wasn’t returned, and PHS led 2-0.
The momentum was defi- nitely on the Blackbirds’ side, as they flew out to a 19-4 lead in the third game. Stryker made a comeback attempt, but H. Nofziger’s dink ended the match.
PHS was 76/78 in serving. Rohrer-Meck served three aces, while Mackenzie Nofziger served two. Tessa Yoder and Chelsea Schmucker each served one.
Weber had 11 kills; H. Nofziger had 10, while S. Yoder had eight and Schmucker, seven. The Birds were 92/100 in attacks, including 38 kills.
Weber and H. Nofziger each had solo blocks.
Rohrer-Meck was 46/46 in setting, while T. Yoder was 33/33.
