Bird Baseball Opens Season With Losses

The Pettisville baseball team opened its season Monday, March 31 at Edgerton. Originally scheduled as a home game, the site was switched to Edgerton because of field conditions.

Scoreless after four innings, the game was postponed because of thunder and lightning.

The Tuesday, April 1 contest at Wauseon was cancelled.

The Birds traveled to Fairview, Thursday, April 3 and came home with a 7-0 loss. PHS was back on the road Saturday, April 5 at Delta. The Panthers won 13-4.

PHS is 0-2 on the season.

Fairview 7, PHS 0

The Apaches scored four runs in the third inning and one in the fourth for a 5-0 lead. They scored the game’s final two runs in the sixth inning.

The Birds were unable to get anyone across the plate.

Winning pitcher: Ryan Radcliff, 4 innings, 0 runs, 5 hits, 10 strikeouts, 1 walk. Sims and Mock pitched in relief.

Losing pitcher: Jordan Klopfenstein, 3 innings, 4 runs, 3 hits, 2 strikeouts, 5 walks. Zane Miller and Logan Frey pitched in relief.

PHS top hitters: Quinn Nofziger, 2-3, one stolen base; Klopfenstein, 1-3; Harris King, 1-1, walk; Jared Avina, 1-3; Andy Switzer, 1-3.

FHS top hitters: Yoder, 3-4; Joost, 2-3, 2 runs.

Delta 13, PHS 4

The Panthers had a 5-1 lead after two innings. Pettisville tightened the score to a 5-4 deficit with one run in the third and two in the top of the fourth.

But Delta responded with eight runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings for the win.

Winning pitcher: Ginn, 2 2/3 innings, 0 runs, 3 strikeouts, 3 walks, 1 hit. Schlosser and Vaughn pitched in relief.

Losing pitcher: Nofziger, 5 innings, 7 runs, 6 hits, 3 strikeouts, 4 walks. Miller pitched in relief.

PHS top hitters: Klopfenstein, 2-5; Nofziger, 2-4 with a double, 1 run batted in; Avina, 1-2, 1 RBI.

DHS top hitters: Schlosser, 3- 4, 2 doubles; Vaughn, 3-4.
