Bible Quizzing Starts 2009 Season

Bible Quiz 2009 is in full swing at sponsoring area churches. This year youth participants are studying material from Genesis, chapters 1 to 30.

Over 40 adults serve as coaches and quizzing staff. Fourteen area teams have eight local meets through March. The weekend of March 28-29, around 70 more teams from Pennsylvania, Virginia and two other Ohio areas will congregate at Archbold Schools for the premier Bible Quiz invitational, last held locally in 2004.

The first meet was Sunday, Jan. 4, at Central Mennonite. Top scoring teams were Endures, Sand Ridge, West Unity, averaging 163 points; The Big Inning, Central Mennonite, Archbold, 160; and The Greater Light, Sonrise Community Church, Ney, 145.

The second meet was Sunday, Jan. 11, at Lockport Mennonite. Top scoring teams were Innocent, Lockport, Stryker, 163; Endures, 152; and Crush, Lockport, 148.

Prizes were also given for the least amount of errors. With only one error in two matches was Endures. Averaging one error per match were Sixth Day Creation, Central, and Flaming Torch, North Clinton, Wauseon.

All participants also quizzed one match on a team made up of quizzers from various churches.

Prize-winning team members from the first two meets:

The Big Inning: Alex Bilen, Caleb McQuillin, John, Luke and Paul Schoenhals, London Smith.

The Greater Light: Kasen Culler, Jacob Karnes, Katie Keesbury, Rose Sliter, Carly Sprow.

Innocent: Derek Miller, Eliot and Seth Nofziger, Wesley Short

Crush: Kristi Frank, Natalie Graber, Seth Miller, Audrey Stuckey, Taylor Waidelich.

Sixth Day Creation: Hannah Holsopple, Elise Sauder, Lydia and Miriam Wyse.

Flaming Torch: Kira Andre, Russell McClarren, Jacque Seigneur, Caleb and Tessa Yoder.

The next meet is Sunday, Jan. 25. Poplar Ridge Church of the Brethren, Domersville Road, Defiance, will host teams from Lockport, Sonrise, St John’s, and West Clinton starting at 2 p.m.

Tedrow Mennonite Church will host teams from Central, North Clinton and Sand Ridge starting at 6 p.m. All quizzers can attend both meets. For more information, visit nwobiblequiz.
