The Archbold School Board appointed Gina Benecke, Ridgeville Corners, to fill an empty seat on the board.

The board took the action at its Monday, Jan. 10 meeting.

Three seats were up for reelection for 2022. Karen Beck, who was already on the board, ran and was unopposed for her seat. Phil Nofziger and Roel Galvan did not seek reelection.

Skeat Hug, a newcomer, was unopposed in his bid for a seat on the board.

No one filed for the third available seat. In that situation, the board appoints someone to fill the position.

The board met in executive session for about 45 minutes during the meeting. Jayson Selgo, superintendent, said board members discussed seven individuals who expressed an interest in serving on the board, before settling on Benecke.

Pay Hike

The board also voted to increase the hourly rate paid to student workers and casual laborers.

For those in their first year of service, the board approved upping the pay from $8.80 per hour to $9.30, a 50-cent pay hike.

The rate increases to $9.45, up from $8.95, for the second year, and $9.60, up from $9.10, for the third.

The board also approved Emaleigh Heckel and Samuel Ruffer for early graduation, pending completion of all state and local requirements.

The board granted permission for Selgo to solicit bids for a new school bus.

The next meeting is Monday, Feb. 14, 5 pm, in the high school media center.–corrected 12:48 am 1/12/22
