Badenhop Called Up To The Big Leagues

Burke Badenhop, the son of Dalyn and Sharon (Burkholder) Badenhop, Perrysburg and formerly of Archbold, and nephew of Elden and Clare Badenhop, Archbold, joined the Florida Marlins baseball team, Monday, April 7.

The 25-year-old right-handed pitcher will likely make his first Major League start, Sunday, April 13 in Houston, Texas.

It is Badenhop’s first opportunity in the big league. A Perrysburg High School and Bowling Green State University graduate, he was a 19th-round pick in the 2005 First-Year Player Draft.

The Marlins acquired Badenhop from the Detroit (Mich.) Tigers in Dec. 2007.

A sinkerball pitcher, Badenhop has the reputation of being highly competitive on the mound. More importantly, he has shown he can throw strikes.

“Something this quick was unexpected, but at the same point, for them to have confidence in me is nice,” said Badenhop.

He was Double-A Carolina’s opening day starter. He worked 6 1/3 innings, allowing one unearned run on six hits, struck out three, and walked none.

“You can never set things in stone, and this game waits for nobody,” said Badenhop. “But it is a good nod in your favor when something like this happens. To make an impression in spring training is real important to me being here today.”

Jason Rose, a 2005 AHS graduate and son of Bill and Cindy Rose, Archbold, also works for the Marlins. He works in inside ticket sales and hopes to progress in the company.

Rose graduated from Ohio Northern University in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in sports management. He got his master’s at BGSU in Dec. 2007.

He moved to Florida in Jan. 2008.- Selected information courtesy floridamarlins.com
