The Ohio State Highway Patrol reports a four-month-old baby was killed in a car crash that occurred about 4 am Thursday, July 2, on Co. Rd. R east of Co. Rd. 26 in Gorham Township.
The infant, identified as Edan Makula, of Delta, was riding in a car driven by Erik Makula, 28, Delta. In a press release, OSHP officials said the car was traveling west when it went off the right side of the roadway and struck several trees.
The patrol report said Edan was in a child safety seat in the back seat of the auto. Troopers said Edan was not properly secured in the seat. He was thrown from the wreckage, coming to rest along the right side of the road.
The infant was flown by helicopter ambulance to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center, Toledo, where he died.
Erik was also flown to St. V’s, along with a third occupant of the vehicle, Jessica Wilson, 18, Delta. They sustained serious injuries, OSHP officials say. A spokesman for St. V’s said late Thursday morning Erik was in the Intensive Care Unit. Wilson was not admitted to St. V’s.
Troopers are investigating the crash.
Assisting Troopers were Fulton County Sheriff Department deputies, Fayette Police, and the Fayette, Delta, and Morenci fire departments.–Posted 10:33 am 7.2.20
