Area Teams Do Well At Bible Quiz Invitational

Central Christian High School, Kidron, hosted the annual Bible Quiz Invitational, Friday, March 26 through Sunday, March 28.

Fifteen area teams quizzed with seven teams from the host Wayne County area, 48 teams from southeastern Pennsylvania, five teams from the West Liberty area, and one team from Harrisonburg, Va.

“Simply,” from West Unity, went undefeated through the winners bracket with six wins on Saturday. It won the 75-team event on Sunday morning in a match against Slate Hill 1, Pennsylvania’s top league team.

Members are Whitney, Collin and Alexis Stamm, and April, Galen and Melissa Short. They are coached by Dale and Les Stamm.

“Lockport 1,” with Seth and Eliot Nofziger, Isaac Dahl, Ryan King and Phillip Nafziger, had three strong wins including a match with Petra 1, who just won the Pennsylvania tournament six days earlier.

Lockport 1 then went up against “Simply,” who won on the last question, 85-70. Lockport 1 won a match in the losers bracket with Pennsylvania’s fourth-place team, then fell to “E-Town 1” to finish seventh. Coaches were Kevin Short and Vern Dahl.

Lockport 3 won its placement round and four matches in the losers bracket to finish 17th. Coached by Lydia Nofziger, members were Melissa Kinkaid, Cara Foor, Maddie Roth, Hannah Groeneweg and Hope Nofziger, who quizzed out in seven of their eight matches.

Sonrise 1, rural Ney, won four matches, including three in the losers bracket, to finish 25th. Members are Jacob Karnes, Kasen Culler, Carly Sprow, Rose Sliter, and Katie Keesbury and Paula Sprow, coach.

Tying for 25th was West Clinton I. Coached by Lisa Aeschliman, the team included Sarah Aeschliman, Ellen Roth, Becca and Emily Short.

Poplar Ridge, rural Defi- ance, won five matches Saturday and finished second in the third consolation brack- et. Members were Tiannah Sheets, Marina Knape, Hope Hornish, and Ciara Caldwell, who quizzed out in seven of their eight matches. Pam Schroeder was the coach.

Central 1 won five matches Saturday with Lydia Wyse, Elise Sauder, Alex Bilen, McKenzie Riegsecker and Caleb McQuillin, who quizzed out seven out of their eight matches. They were coached by Loyal Briskey.

Zion II, Archbold, won five matches Saturday. Members are Caleb and Josh Liechty, Gabe Short and Katie Yoder, who quizzed out in all eight matches.

Zion 1, who won three matches, had Zach Zimmerman, Aaron Zimmerman, Meg Short and Hannah Short, who quizzed out in five of their six matches. Zion coaches were Stan and Sue Short and Ben Frey.

A special fun match took place Saturday evening with special buttons to accommodate top quizzers from all areas. Northwest Ohio quizzers Eliot and Seth Nofziger, Tiannah Sheets and Whitney Stamm won the match.

The 2011 Invitational is in Lancaster, Pa., with material covering Genesis chapters 31-50.
