Thirteen area Bible quiz teams traveled to West Liberty Salem High School in West Liberty, to participate in the annual Bible Quiz Invitational, March 23-25.

This big end-of-the-season event included 41 teams from Pennsylvania, 28 from Ohio and four from Virginia.

“Longenecker,” a team of four girls from the Wayne County area of Ohio, were the tournament champions with eight straight wins.

“Lockport 1,” consisting of Cara Foor, Hannah Groeneweg, Tony King, and Caleb Short, won its first four matches and advanced to seventh place out of the 73 teams. The team’s final match with “Petra 3” from Pennsylvania was an exciting match, determined on the last question when a “Petra” quizzer quizzed out on the last question to win 80-75.

“Lockport 2,” with Isaac Dahl, Ryan King, Melissa Kinkaid, Hope Nofziger, and Madalyn Roth, lost 90-75 to the eventual state runnersup, “Blainsport/Conestoga,” in its second match of the winner’s bracket. “Lockport 2” then advanced with four straight wins in the loser’s bracket to finish ninth.

Central and Zion each took one team and did very well in the first consolation bracket called Denied Three Times.

After falling out of the double elimination brackets, both teams advanced with three wins in their consolation bracket to tie for third out of those 25 teams.

Central members were Alan Donnett, Sidney Ramirez, Michael Short, Therin Smith and Miriam Wyse.

Quizzing for Zion were Hannah, Meg, Gabe and Cameron Short (coach Stan and Sue’s children), Katie Yoder, Aaron and Ben Zimmerman.

Other teams representing the Northwest Ohio quiz league included Eastland Baptist, Living Hope, North Clinton, three teams from Sonrise Community, Stryker Baptist, Tedrow and West Clinton.

At the closing ceremonies, John Dinius, area coordinator, invited all teams to NW Ohio for the 2013 invitational. Material covered will be stories of David from I and II Samuel.
