Archbold Youth Soccer Club




The Archbold Blue Streaks soccer club boys U-14 team hosted the Port Clinton Titans, Sunday, Sept. 9 in a Northwest Ohio Youth Soccer League contest.

Archbold took the early lead with a goal by Brodie Nofziger in the 10th minute, with Andrew Mayer providing the assist. Port Clinton answered seven minutes later, then added two more goals before halftime to take a 3-1 lead into the break.

In the second half the visitors scored two early goals to build a 5-1 lead before Nofziger added an unassisted goal with seven minutes remaining to produce the 5-2 final.

David Lauber turned in a strong defensive effort for the Streaks at sweeper, as did goalkeeper Jonny Lantz, who successfully fended off a flurry of three consecutive shots at one point in the second half.

Boys U-18

The boys U-18 team hosted the Wauseon junior varsity Saturday, Sept. 1. Austin Short started the scoring for Archbold with a 19th-minute breakaway goal in the first half.

He added another goal five minutes after halftime with a header on a corner kick from Aaron Bontrager. The Streaks scored again with one minute remaining to seal the 3-0 victory.

Archbold traveled to Toledo Start, Thursday, Sept. 6 to take on the Spartan JV. The Streaks struck first in the 18th minute when winger Lucas Burnett knocked a direct free kick through the keeper’s hands after a Start infraction.

Thirteen minutes after halftime the hosts evened the score. Both defenses held on for the duration of the match, which ended tied at 1, moving Archbold’s season record to 3-1-1.

The team travels to Eastwood High School, Monday, Sept. 17 for a 6:30 pm match with the Eagles junior varsity. Archbold hosts the Pettisville JV, Tuesday, Sept. 18 in a 7:30 pm match at Spengler Field.

Girls U-14

The Archbold Blue Streak Soccer Club U-14 girls team opened its fall season last weekend. The ESSL Arsenol came to town, Saturday, Sept 8. The first half ended in a scoreless tie, with both teams playing equally. In the second half, ESSL scored one goal and went on to win 1-0 in a hard-fought game that could have gone either way.

The Streaks traveled to Swanton, Sunday, Sept. 9. Archbold came out strong and scored three goals by Becca Gerig, Mindy Rupp and Lauren Kindinger early in the first half. Swanton score two quick goals at the start of the second half to close the gap to 3-2, but Archbold quickly regained control when Gerig and Rupp scored again for a 5-2 win.

Megan Arend did a great job in goal both games. It was a total team effort, with very few subs available. Other team members include Carley Wyse, Ruthie Beck, Sierrra Nofziger, Hanna Allison, Kassidy Garrow, Jesse Fidler, Meggie Yoder, Cassidy Wyse, Jennifer Gerkin and Krista Leupp.

They are coached by Vaughn Bentz and Skip Leupp.
