Randy Gardner, state senator (R-Bowling Green), acknowledged Madison Campbell, an Archbold High School sophomore, during the Monday, Feb. 18, Archbold Village Council meeting.
Gardner explained Campbell was part of a competitive Ohio Farm Bureau leadership program known as “Capital Challenge.”
The program was open to students who are members of 4-H, FFA, or Farm Bureau between the ages of 14 and 18.
Those selected traveled to Columbus, Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 11-12, where they met with legislators and toured the capitol.
Students will record their work, then make a presentation at the Ohio State Fair.
Campbell worked with a team of students, whose public policy focus was to promote teaching of agriculture principles and practices in the classroom.
Mark Ballmer, a Franklin Township resident and Farm Bureau official, said Farm Bureau promotes youth in agriculture, believing their involvement is essential.
He said many young peo- ple are not connected to and are not being taught about agriculture, which is Ohio’s number one industry.
Also attending the meeting were Campbell’s parents, Carl and Jill.
