Student musicians from Archbold high and middle Schools racked up impressive results in recent music competitions.
Kent Vandock, director of choral activities, said three AHS choral ensembles earned top ratings, Saturday, April 30 in the Ohio Music Education Association State Adjudicated Event, held at Van Buren High School.
The Chorale (boys and girls singing together), Mens Chorus, and Womens Chorus all received Superior ratings.
“This marks the tenth consecutive year that choral ensembles from Archbold have appeared at state contest,” said Vandock.
“In addition, this marks the second consecutive year that three choral ensembles from Archbold High School have gone to state contest and all received Superior ratings.”
That same day, the AHS concert band competed in the OMEA State Large Group Adjudicated Event, and brought back a Superior.
“This is the first time in about 20 years that the AHS band has earned the top rating at state,” said Beth Voll, band director.
Middle school students competed in OMEA solo and ensemble competition at Defiance High School, Saturday, April 16.
Students earning superior (I) ratings: Chris Foor, Olivia Ribali, and Zoey Poppe, percussion trio; Erin Reichert, horn solo; Ivan Cobb, horn & piano solos; Liam Row, trumpet solo; Elizabeth Mignin, Kelly Bilen, Riah Short, Ariah Qaimari, clarinet quartet; Bilen, Short, Qaimari, clainet trio; Dana Voll, trombone solo.
Excellent (II) rating: Emma Dowdy, flute solo.
Good (III) rating: Weston Ruffer, piano solo.
Jennifer Cobb, Beth Reichert and Jason Row were accompanists.
