Archbold Reclaims Streak Spiketacular Title

After finishing third last year, Archbold reclaimed the Streak Spiketacular volleyball tournament title, Saturday, Oct. 3 at Archbold High School.

The Streaks and Kidron Central Christian had played in the finals every year since 2000 until last year, when Otsego and Kidron played for the title.

This year Archbold and Otsego played for the title. Throughout the tournament Archbold disposed of its opponents in two games, and the final wasn’t any different. AHS beat the Knights 25-23, 26-24 for the championship, which the Streaks last won in 2007.

Antwerp took third; Kidron, fourth; Gibsonburg, fifth; Tinora, sixth; Paulding, seventh; and Hilltop, eighth.

The Streaks beat Gibsonburg 25-12, 25-15 in their first match, and Antwerp 25-18, 25- 15 in their second, placing them in the finals.

Blue Streaks Emily Snyder, Devin Newman, and Stacy Wyse were named to the All- Tournament Team.

Archbold, which jumped from eighth to third in the Division III Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association weekly poll upped its record to 17-0 with five victories last week, including the three at the Spiketacular.

The Streaks opened the week with a 25-16, 25-15, 25- 13 Northwest Ohio Athletic League victory over Wauseon in The Thunderdome, Tuesday, Sept. 29. AHS remains undefeated in the league at 5-0.

The Blue and Gold hosted Kalida, Thursday, Oct. 1 in a battle of state-ranked teams. The Wildcats were ranked 20th in Division IV.

It took four games for the Streaks to come out on top, 25- 15, 21-25, 25-17, 25-17. Kalida dropped to 10-3 on the season.
