Archbold police assisted a Michigan trucking firm in recovering a refrigerated semi trailer around 5 pm, Tuesday, Jan. 9.
The police report on the incident states M&M Express Trucking, Inc., Romulus, Mich., contacted officers, reporting that an owner-operator was parked at Frozen Specialties, Inc., with one of its trailers.
Company officials explained the driver told them seven days prior that he was going to be off work due to a family emergency.
But they checked the global positioning (GPS) unit on the trailer and discovered it had been active ever since the driver had called to say he would not be working. Company officials alleged the driver was using their trailer for his own benefit.
Officers were told company officials had already contacted FSI.
FSI said the truck was at the Archbold facility and was being loaded.
An Archbold officer went to FSI and located the owner operator.
The officer wrote in the report he spoke with the owner operator, “where I told him to unhook from it (the trailer), which he did without incident.
“He explained there was a misunderstanding, which I explained if so, I was there to make sure that the company got their trailer back safely.
“Any misunderstanding could be worked out between him and the company.”
FSI officials secured the trailer until it could be recovered by the trucking company.
