Archbold Library Board Talks About Computers, Finances During Meeting

With three members absent, Tuesday, May 20, the Archbold Library Board had just enough members present to conduct business.

Much of the meeting related to financial expenditures and finances.

Laura Hutchison, board fiscal officer, said the library has a one-year certificate of deposit at Huntington Bank with a current a value of $24,585.

It pays 2.21 percent interest and can be renewed for the same period of time at 2.66 percent. Another CD is valued at $54,997.77.

Joyce Klingelsmith, library director. said she will have more information on CDs in June. She expects to receive a $3,500 payment from the Ohio commercial activity tax (CAT).

After a brief discussion the board approved a temporary appropriation budget and a title change for Hutchison from board clerk to fiscal officer.

Klingelsmith said the operating levy expires this year and must go before voters again. Before it can go on the ballot, it must be approved by the Archbold Area School District Board of Education, the library district’s official sponsor.

She said several library employees recently completed computer training.

The board discussed funding health insurance for retired school teachers who work at the library. No insurance action was taken.

According to Klingelsmith, attendance at spring story hours is good, but there is a decrease in the number of children’s books checked out. She could only attribute the difference to mothers checking out fewer books for young children.

Board members at the meeting were Helen Row, president; Judi Rupp, Corinna Miller, and John Bamonte. Absent were Jed Grisez, Sandy Wyse, and Diane Tinsman.

Several library staff members attended the Ohio Library Council Chapter Conference during the month of April.

The next regular board meeting is Monday, July 21.- Sharon Taylor
