Archbold Library Board Discusses Finances

Archbold Community Library finances are holding at about the same level as previous years, according to Joyce Klingelsmith, library director.

At the Monday evening, Sept. 15, library board meeting, the director also warned expenses are increasing.

Judi Rupp, board member, asked if the library considers local banks when investing in certificates of deposit. Laura Hutchison, board clerk and secretary, said she checks local bank CD rates for the highest rates. Over the years CDs have been purchased at both banks.

The clerk report showed expenses through the end of August totaled $252,768.08.

eBooks

John Bamonte, board member, asked questions about eBooks. According to Klingelsmith, eBooks can be downloaded from the Ohio eBook project computer site. The local library joined the service last year at a cost of $500, which was paid from the Bourquin Fund. Over 10,000 books are available from eBooks.

Klingelsmith said books on computer disc are popular with local library patrons. She said registration for fall children’s programs is going well, and the staff likes the convenience of computer registration.

Briefly discussed were holiday hours for Christmas and New Years weeks. The director plans to establish all 2009 special hours shortly after the first of the year.

Hall Painting

After a few minutes of discussing the possibility of painting a mural on the hall wall from the main entrance to the community room, no decision was made. Diane Tinsman and Corinna Miller, board members, were asked to provide specific ideas for the project at a future meeting.

Tinsman said Nancy Ruffer, rural Archbold, expressed interest in painting a mural, costing $500 to $1,000. Helen Row, board president, expressed concern about the project because of the lack of library revenue increasing and the increasing costs of wages, insurance, and other items.

Tentative board meetings are planned for Monday, Oct. 20 and Nov. 17. Klingelsmith suggested that the board needs to begin planning a levy renewal campaign. She plans a Power- Point presentation of future finances for the October meeting.
