Archbold JV Baseball Win Streak Reaches Five

After putting a fivegame win streak together, the Archbold junior varsity baseball team lost to Wauseon in the championship game of the Wauseon JV Invitational tournament.

Starting the season with a 1- 7 record, the Blue Streaks have improved their record to 8-10.

Archbold started out the week, Monday, April 28 with a 17-1 thumping of Montpelier. Bobby Rodriguez led the onslaught with three hits; Garrett Morton and Aaron Wyse each added two.

Ben Miller was the winning pitcher and allowed the Locomotives only two hits.

The Streaks beat Pettisville 14-8, Wednesday, April 30. Miller slugged two doubles and drove in three runs. Drew Smith also knocked in three runs with a double and a sacrifice fly. Zac Grosjean added a double and two runs batted in.

Collin Walker picked up the win as he limited the Blackbirds to two earned runs.

The hot hitting continued Thursday, May 1 as Archbold pounded Evergreen 15-3. Corey Wyse and Jared Leininger each smacked three hits, while Trey Westrick and Smith added two each. Drew Ginn drove in two runs to aid the offense.

Aaron Wyse did not allow a run in relief to get the win, while Tyler Appel shut down the Vikings the last two innings.

Playing Montpelier in the first game of the Wauseon Tournament on Saturday, May 3, AHS coasted to an 11- 3 victory. Grosjean drilled a grand slam home run, while Smith connected on a three-run shot to provide most of the offense.

Miller started the game on the mound and picked up the win, while Appel again came on in relief to protect the lead.

The win streak came to a halt in the championship game as Wauseon downed Archbold 10-6. Westrick and Smith each had two hits. Corey Wyse suffered the loss on the mound.
