The Archbold girls basketball record remains perfect at 5-0 with road victories over Fairview and Evergreen last week.

The Streaks used a 27-4 first-quarter lead to defeat the Apaches 80-36, Tuesday, Dec. 4.

AHS again used a firstquarter lead to gain the advantage at Evergreen, Friday, Dec. 7. Leading 19- 2 after one period, the Blue and Gold beat the Vikings 46-17 to raise its Northwest Ohio Athletic League record to 2-0.

AHS 80, Fairview 36

“We did a nice job with our man-to-man pressure to open the game, causing some turnovers,” said Brian Ziegler, AHS head coach.

“We saw a couple different defenses and had good ball movement against their zones.

“We passed well and found open teammates.”

The Streaks led 40-10 at the half and 64-20 after three.

AHS won the rebounding battle 26-18. The Apaches committed 36 turnovers to Archbold’s 16.

The Streaks were 6-9 at the foul line for 67%, while Fairview (0-3) was 12-15 for 80%.

A quartet of Blue Streaks was in double figures, led by Cassidy Wyse with 16 points. Winter Fricke scored 13, including three three-pointers, while Hannah Hesterman and Jesse Fidler each scored 10.

Brittany Conkey was Fairview’s only player in double figures. She led all scorers with 18 points.

AHS 46, Evergreen 17

“I thought we did a nice job defensively, not allowing Evergreen to get into any kind of offensive flow,” said Ziegler.

“The big first quarter was the difference.

“We played well as a team. When all five players work as one unit, we can do some good things.

“I liked our intensity, especially in the first quarter. We passed the ball well for some wide-open shots.

“We missed shots we should make, but some nights they all don’t go in.”

After the 19-2 first quarter both teams scored seven points in the second for a 26-9 Blue Streak halftime advantage.

The Streaks widened the gap to 38-13 after three before outscoring the Vikings 8-4 in the fourth quarter for the 46-17 final.

Wyse led the Streaks with 16 points. Taylor Coressel was also in double figures, with 11.

No Viking was in double figures.

Evergreen (1-4, 0-2 NWOAL) won the rebounding battle 25-19, but committed 32 turnovers to the Streaks’ 14.

The Vikings were 5-8 from the foul line for 62%; AHS was 1-6 for 16%.
