Archbold Finishes 7th In Computer Rankings

Archbold (7-3) plays Liberty- Benton (10-0), Friday, Nov. 2, 7:30 p.m., in the regional quarterfinal of the Division V football playoffs.

The game is at Liberty-Benton.

AHS jumped four spots, from 11th to seventh, in the final Ohio High School Athletic Association Division V Region 18 computer rankings to advance to the playoffs for the first time since 2002.

The top eight teams in the computer rankings in each region earned the right to play in the post-season.

A number of upsets, Friday, Oct. 26, including Wauseon’s 35-28 defeat of Patrick Henry, Tinora’s 38-20 win over Fairview, and Spencerville’s 17-14 victory over Delphos Jefferson, shook up the final computer rankings.

Final Rankings

The final Div. V Regional 18 computer rankings:

1. Patrick Henry; 2. Liberty- Benton; 3. Fairview; 4. Lima Central Catholic; 5. Bucyrus Wynford; 6. Tinora; 7. Archbold; 8. Liberty Center.

PH (9-1) hosts LC (7-3); LCC (9-1) hosts Wynford (10-0); and Fairview (9-1) hosts Tinora (8- 2) in regional quarterfinals Friday night.

The Patriots were ranked third in Ohio’s Div. V by the Associated Press in their seventh weekly poll of 2007 last week. Liberty-Benton was rated fourth; Fairview, fifth; and Wynford, sixth.

In fact, all of the teams in last week’s AP Top 10 poll in Div. V are in the playoffs.

Friday, Nov. 2 winners advance to the regional semifinals, Friday, Nov. 9. The regional fi- nals are Friday, Nov. 16.

2002 Playoffs

In 2002, the last time Archbold was in the playoffs, the Streaks pull off an upset 20-6 win over Ottawa-Glandorf.

The Blue and Gold then moved back closer to home, playing Northwest Ohio Athletic League rival Delta at Napoleon. The Streaks dropped Delta 16-13 on a 27-yard field goal by Mike Zimmerman.

During the regular season the Streaks defeated the Panthers 10-7 in overtime on a 31-yard field goal by Zimmerman.

Next up in the Blue and Gold’s playoff run was the highpowered offense of Kenton and Ben Maulk. The Wildcats dismantled the Streaks 52-0. The Streaks finished 2002 with a 10-3 record.- Scott Schultz
