Archbold Council Hears Committee, Budget Reports

Archbold Village Council heard reports from various committees and departments at its Monday, Oct. 20 meeting.

Kevin Morton, buildings and grounds committee chairman, said they are working on the fi- nal sign and posts for the Archbold Cemetery.

Jeff Fryman, police and fire committee chairman, said that group met with Andy Brodbeck, Archbold fire chief, and Martin Schmidt, police chief, about the 2009 budget. Both have carryovers for next year.

Kenny Cowell, utility committee chairman, met with Rick Schantz, water treatment plant superintendant of operations; Scott Schultz, water treatment plant assistant superintendant of operations; and Frank D’Ambrosia, wastewater treatment plant superintendent, about their 2009 budgets.

Cowell commended the supervisors for being good stewards of the public’s money.

“These guys are very conscientious about what they’re spending their money on,” he said.

The air diffusers in the wastewater treatment plant will probably have to be replaced in the next couple of years, which can be “pricey,” Cowell said.

Howell said that if the air diffusers are starting to lose effi ciency, the last time they were replaced they paid for themselves in about 18 months on electrical costs alone.

Brad Grime, streets and sidewalks committee, said the engineering department would possibly request a used pickup truck, but otherwise didn’t have many requests.

The street department is looking at buying a new wheel loader, which runs $100,000 to $120,000.

Howell and Joann Lovejoy, fi- nance director, have not yet met with Jennifer Kidder, Archbold Parks and Recreation director, about her budget for 2009.

Miscellaneous correspondence was also reviewed.
