The Archbold boys varsity soccer team lost to 2009 Division III regional semifinalist Huron, 2-1, before handing Fort Wayne Fusion its first loss of the season, 2-1.
The split week moved the Streaks’ season record to 4- 2.
The junior varsity picked up three wins, besting Huron 5-0, Woodward 9-0, and Fort Wayne Fusion 5-0. The JV improved to 5-1 while outscoring its three opponents 19-0.
Huron 2, AHS 1
On the road for the Saturday, Sept. 4 contest, the Streaks scored first with 14:06 remaining in the first half. Defender Blake Drewes headed in a goal from 6 yards away on an Aaron Bontrager corner kick from the right side.
In the second half, Huron (2-0) responded with goals by its two All-District forwards, Nico Samaniego and John Dusza, sealing the comeback victory despite a 13-5 Archbold advantage in shots on goal.

Archbold hosted Fort Wayne, Saturday, Sept. 11.
Archbold jumped ahead three minutes into the contest when A. Bontrager served a ball from the left side that a Fusion defender attempted to clear, only to score in his own goal.
Archbold added to the lead with 16:51 remaining when David Bontrager tapped in a rebound goal after the Fusion goalkeeper deflected an A. Bontrager shot.
The visitors narrowed the lead with 4:47 left on a successful penalty kick after an Archbold infraction, but the Streaks held on for the victory.
Archbold out-shot Fort Wayne 8-3, who dropped to 4-1-2 on the season.
