Bailey Pflager, an Archbold Middle School fifth grade student, helps plant a birch tree in Ruihley Park to commemorate Arbor Day, Friday, April 20.

Jim Wyse, village mayor, talks to the students about the history of Arbor Day in Archbold. During the ceremony, students observe and assist with the planting of a tree. The ceremony is one of the requirements the village must fulfill to be named a Tree City, USA, by the Arbor Day Foundation. Archbold has held the title for 29 years.– photos by Mary Huber
