Anna Rose “Jo” Lantz, age 93 years, of Archbold, passed away early Thursday morning, Feb. 9, 2012, at Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home in Archbold.
She was born March 29, 1918, near Wauseon, the daughter of Lloyd and Mabel (Bernath) Leu.
She married Dale Lantz on Sept. 2, 1950, and he preceded her in death on July 6, 2011.
A lifelong resident of the Archbold area, she, with her brother, owned and operated the former Jo & Sonny’s Restaurant. She operated Jo’s Rooming House, and a second hand store, both in Archbold, and with her sister had a lunch wagon they took to all area auctions.
She collected out-of-date magazines and all kinds of clothing and took them on mission trips to Kentucky and Mexico.
She contributed much to the Humane Society.
Jo was honored as the Archbold Citizen of the year in 1970. She was a member of the Archbold United Methodist Church, where she was active helping with thrift sales three times a year.
She is survived by a brother, L.G. (Ruth) Leu of Bryan; nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Diane (William) Swisher of Archbold.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a sister, Wahneta Vonier.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, Feb. 16, at 7 p.m., at the Fairlawn Chapel with Rev. Charles Gautsche officiating.
As Jo gave so much in life, it was her wish to be an anatomical donor at death to the University of Toledo Medical School.
Memorials in her name may be given to Humane Society, Archbold United Methodist Church, or Fairlawn Haven.
Short Funeral Home in Archbold has been entrusted with the arrangements. www.ShortFuneralHome.com.
