Amateur Radio Club Makes 885 Contacts

The Fulton County Amateur Radio club made contacts with 885 other stations during the annual nationwide event known as Field Day, June 26-27.

The American Radio Relay League sponsors Field Day. It is conducted as a contest and public demonstration.

Amateur radio operators, or hams, take portable equipment into the field and demonstrate how they would operate in an emergency. The group operates from Tedrow.

Craig Szczublewski, radio club member, said the hams contacted amateur stations in 49 states, missing only Alaska.

They contacted, or “worked,” stations in several Canadian provinces.

The Fulton County hams also made contact with other amateurs in Melbourne, Australia; Nassau, Bahamas; and Cuba.

The 885-contact total is down one from 2009, when contact was made with 886 stations.
