Trudy Mahnke, an administrative assistant with the city of Wauseon, confirmed that Fred Allen resigned from his post on Wauseon city council.
Wauseon council accepted the resignation at its Monday, July 7 meeting.
Allen was indicted by a Fulton County Grand Jury on Monday, June 23, on charges of theft in office and tampering with records.
In a press release, Scott Haselman, Fulton County prosecuting attorney, said between Jan. 12, 2012, and Feb. 6, 2014, Allen allegedly, “being a public official, stole property or services owned by the county. He also allegedly tampered with records belonging to a government entity.”
He is currently free on personal recognizance.
Allen, who retired from the City of Wauseon public works department in 2005 after 30 years of service, went to work part-time for the Fulton County Auditor Office in weights and measures in 2006.
He resigned from the post in February 2014.
An assistant chief with the Wauseon Fire Department, he is currently on administrative leave. He has served 41 years with WFD.
