Fresh off their team state title, the Delta Panthers ran away from the competition and captured the Division III sectional wrestling championship at Archbold High School, Friday and Saturday, Feb. 15-16.
The Panthers scored 238.5 points. Archbold was second with 189.5, followed by Ayersville 164.5, Liberty Center 132, Paulding 132, Tinora 117, Edgerton 88, Swanton 83, Montpelier 75, Fairview 71, Evergreen 62, Antwerp 24, Hicksville 20.
The Streaks now prepare to compete at the district tournament at the Stroh Center at Bowling Green State University.
It will be a new adventure for the wrestlers as the site moves from Owens Community
Those who attend will be provided with twice the excitement, as both Div. III and II will compete in what is known as a “super” district.
Most northwest Ohio area teams will be featured, including D-II schools Wauseon and Bryan.
“A new venue brings a little bit of excitement,” said Brian Becher, AHS coach. “But I think it’s gonna be a little crowded (as well).
“You just want to have a good environment for all the kids to participate in. You don’t want to have any negative things that you can’t control.”
Wrestling begins at 3 pm on Friday and continues on Saturday at 11 am.
Finals begin one hour after the conclusion of the morning session.
