AHS Wins Sixth Straight

Archbold and Evergreen won two Northwest Ohio Athletic League volleyball matches last week and sit atop the league standings with perfect 4-0 records.

The Streaks hosted Wauseon for an NWOAL matchup, Tuesday, Sept. 10, and defeated the Indians in three games.

Delta came to town, Thursday, Sept. 12. Again, AHS knocked off its league opponent in three games.

The Blue and Gold hosted Napoleon and Fairview for a tri-match, Saturday, Sept. 14. AHS defeated both teams in two games to raise its overall record to 7-1.

AHS Def. Wauseon 25-20, 25-12, 25-8

Serving: Desi Newman 16- 16, 3 aces; Cassidy Williams 12-12, 1 ace; Peyton Driver 2 aces. Team: 65-73, 9 aces.

AHS Def. Delta 27-25, 25-19, 25-18

The Panthers led 14-6 in the first game when AHS went on a 5-0 run to tighten the gap to 14-11.

The Streaks tied the score at 19 on a spiking error by Delta, and was at game point, 24-22, when the Panthers came back to tie the score at 24.

Delta was at game point, 25-24, on an Archbold spiking error, but after Kylie Rufenacht called a time-out to settle the Streaks, they scored the game’s final three points to win the first game 27-25.

Archbold took control in the second game, leading by as many as 12 points before the Panthers got to within four, 22-18.

Becca Gerig’s kill gave AHS a 23-18 advantage, and Cassidy Williams’ tap put the Streaks at game point.

The side-out went back to Delta on an Archbold serve that went long, but Tessa Osterhout’s spike went wide for the Panthers, and AHS won the game 25-19.

The Blue and Gold never trailed again in the third game after tying the score at 8. They took the lead for good with a Williams spike, and even though Delta came within three points several times afterwards, the Streaks won 25-18.
