The Archbold volleyball team won its first match but lost its next two to finish fourth at the Golden Spike Invitational at Springfield High School, Saturday, Sept. 25.

Nicole Hurst was named to the all-tournament team.

The Streaks (7-5) defeated Springfield 25-19, 25-19 in their first match of the day. Tori Williams, Abby Short, and Nicole Hurst each had four kills. Sarah Wyse and Darian Oberlin each had two solo blocks.

Wyse was 44/44 in setting.

As a team, AHS was 44/48 in serving, 27/29 in serve reception, 60/60 in setting, and 55/60 in attacks.

Newark Catholic defeated the Streaks in the second round, 25-12, 25-23. Williams and Short each had four kills, while Becca Gerig, Chelsea Goebel, Hurst, and Jenny Lehman each had two.

Wyse served two aces and was 50/50 in setting.

AHS was 30/34 in serving, 58/59 in setting, and 37/57 in attacks.

Anthony Wayne beat AHS in the match for third place, 25-20, 12-25, 25-23. Hurst had nine of Archbold’s 25 kills while Gerig had seven. Hurst also had three solo blocks.

Gerig and Goebel each served four aces, while Hurst served three.

As a team, AHS was 55/60 in serving, 52/57 in serve reception, 90/91 in setting, and 67/80 in attacks.

The Streaks raised their record to 3-1 in the Northwest Ohio Athletic League with a four-game victory over Liberty Center, Tuesday, Sept. 21.

Short had 11 of the team’s 43 kills, while Hurst had nine and Gerig had eight. Gerig and Short each had a solo block, and each served two aces.

Wyse was 108/108 in setting.

As a team, AHS was 92/99 in serving, 82/89 in serve reception, 174/189 in passing, 157/157 in setting, and 138/165 in attacks.

Short and Hurst each had eight of the team’s 34 kills, while Gerig had five and Wyse had four.

Gerig served three of Archbold’s seven aces. Wyse was 103/105 in setting.

As a team, Archbold was 84/93 in serving, 87/96 in serve reception, 167/179 in passing, 148/152 in setting, and 123/149 in attacks.

For Defiance (3-8), Betsy Lawson had 16 kills while Demma Strausbaugh had 15.
