AHS Student Wins Art Show Top Prize

Gwynne Riley, an AHS senior, took the top prize in the annual Black Swamp Arts Council High School Invitational Art Show.

Her mixed-media work, “Captcha,” was named Best of Show.

Gordon Ricketts, senior lecturer, drawing and painting, Bowling Green State University, one of the three judges for the 2019 event, praised Riley’s piece as “topnotch work, great aesthetic, craftsmanship and concept.”

Gabriella Cox, an AHS senior, won in the Outstanding Ceramics category for her set of plates and a bowl titled “Parallel Plates.

Amberlyn Whitson, an AHS junior, received an honorable mention for her mat board collagraph, “Feeding Time.”

The BSAC High School Invitational Art Show was Feb. 11-21 in the Northwest State Community College Atrium. It featured more than 110 works of art from students representing 12 area high schools.
