The Archbold softball team, under Joe Frank, head coach, returns 11 letterwinners from a squad that finished 22-4 and 6-2 in the Northwest Ohio Athletic League last year.

Frank has been at the helm of the Blue and Gold for eight seasons. He has compiled a 165-56 record and finished last year as Division III regional runner-up.

“We have a returning letterwinner at every position on the field, so there will be no excuses,” said Frank.

“The coaching staff has high expectations for this group, and hopefully this team will meet or exceed those expectations.”

Team strengths are that the group is hardworking, has a good attitude, and are solid defensively.

Depth is a concern. Lost to graduation are Lauren Kern and Katie Miller.

Eight seniors return: Morgan Ducey, catcher, who was Second Team All-District and received an honorable mention in the NWOAL last year; Andrea Allan, shortstop, honorable mention All-State, First Team All-District, Second Team All-NWOAL; Devin Newman, second base; Stacy Wyse, right field, honorable mention-NWOAL; Abbey Graber, first base; Jenna Nofziger, center field; Alexis Campos, pitcher; and Mindy Wyse, infield/outfield).

Juniors back are Courtney Day, left field, First Team All-NWOAL, First Team All-District, Second Team All-State; Alyssa Schaub, third base, Second Team All- NWOAL, Second Team All- District; and Sarah Wyse, first base and pitcher.

“We have a very experienced group back, although we are facing some injury issues,” said Frank.

“We are counting on this group to not be content with what we accomplished last year. If we can get healthy and stay hungry, we have a chance to do some good things.”

Assistant coaches are Greg Kuhlman, Andrea Thiel, and Sarah Betts.

The Streaks were scheduled to open their season, Monday, March 29 at Otsego.
