With two outs and the bases loaded in the fourth inning, Milan Edison pitcher Susan Knight stepped to the plate and hit a grand slam home run in the Division III regional softball final with Archbold, Saturday, May 26, at Ashland.
The grand slam homer gave the top-ranked Chargers (30-1) a 7-2 lead, and they went on to win 10-2 to advance to the Final Four next week at Akron.
Neither team scored in the first inning, even though the Streaks had the bases loaded with no outs.
Edison was the first to score with a run in the second. Archbold tied the score at 1 in the bottom of the inning with a Becca Gerig double, which scored Mindy Rupp. Then, with two outs, Cassidy Wyse hit deep to center field, scoring Taylor Coressel for a 2-1 lead.
Edison came back in the third and scored twice, taking the lead for good at 3-2.
After Knight’s grand slam, neither team scored in the fifth.
Edison scored its final three runs in the sixth; the final run was on a Knight double.
