Delta visited the Thunderdome, Thursday, Feb. 7, with plans to seal at least a share of its second straight Northwest Ohio Athletic Athletic League girls basketball title.
Instead, the Blue Streaks kept themselves in the hunt for the NWOAL crown with a 54-44 win.
Ranked 14th in Division III in last week’s Associated Press poll, the Panthers dropped to 15-3, 4-1 NWOAL. The Streaks improved to 12- 7, 4-2 NWOAL.
“What a nice win for the team on Senior Night,” said Brian Ziegler, AHS head coach.
“A huge win for the four seniors in their final home game. Each one played good minutes.
“Lily Krieger did a nice job inside, both on offense and defense. Andi Peterson didn’t score much, but was huge versus their pressure.
“Gabby Nafziger hit a couple of big threes, and Faith Wyse had a big basket in the first half and played solid defense.
“Kylie Sauder was the difference maker. She made some athletic plays.”
Archbold led 14-6 after one, 23-20 at the break, and 36-32 after three before outscoring the Panthers 18-12 in the final eight minutes for the 10- point margin of victory.
Krieger led all scorers with 15 points. She also had seven of the team’s 20 rebounds.
Sauder was also in double figures, with 11 points.
Brooklyn Green led Delta, with 12 points.
Both teams hit 14 twopoint baskets, and Archbold had five treys while Delta had four.
But the difference really came at the free-throw line, where AHS was 11-16 and Delta was 4-6.
