The Archbold girls soccer team completed a goal it set at the beginning of the season when the Streaks defeated Evergreen to win an outright Northwest Ohio Athletic League championship and finish 6-0.
The Streaks, ranked fifth in the final Ohio Soccer Scholastic Coaches Association poll, captured their fourth NWOAL title in school history and their first since 2013.
Archbold also defeated Toledo Central Catholic to help the Streaks finish the season with a perfect 16-0 record.
AHS 2, Toledo CC 1
The Streaks traveled to Toledo to battle the Irish in a non-league contest, Monday, Oct. 9.
The Blue Streaks found themselves in an unfamiliar position when TCC (4-11-1) scored the only goal of the first half, the first time this season Archbold trailed at the half.
AHS broke through in the second half when Emie Peterson scored with 20:43 on the clock to tie the game at 1.
Brooke Kohler scored the eventual winner with 5:59 left for the 2-1 win.
Chloe Nofziger had one assist. AHS 9, Evergreen 0
The Blue Streaks welcomed Evergreen (1-10, 0-6 NWOAL), Thursday, Oct. 12, for their league and season finale.
It took 14 minutes before Archbold finally got on the board with a header from Andi Peterson on a Nofziger corner kick.
Two minutes later, Lily Krieger scored on an assist from A. Peterson for a 2-0 lead.
Nofziger received a pass from Regan Ramirez and took a long shot over the head of the Viking keeper for a 3-0 lead with 19:12 remaining in the half.
E. Peterson and Nofziger then scored two goals within an 89-second span for a commanding 5-0 lead at the half.
Kamryn Hostetler scored Archbold’s sixth goal less than four minutes into the second half.
Krieger, Giulia Lee and Kennedy Miller closed out the scoring for the 9-0 win.
“Obviously winning the league championship was huge for us to bring back for the seniors,” said Jen Kidder, AHS assistant coach.
“Finishing 16-0 is huge for us. We’ve never done that before, and that is a great accomplishment for these girls.
“Hopefully it’s the momentum we need to have a really strong tournament run.”
It was the final regular season home game for seniors Leah Hall, Hostetler, Kohler, Lee, and E. Peterson.
“I think you can attribute everything to the senior leadership that we have,” said Kidder.
“It’s absolutely amazing what these girls are together as a team.
“Each one of them has come and given 100% every single game and has been such a positive all the time.”
The top-seeded Streaks host Monday’s winner of Cardinal Stritch (6-6-3)-Delta (6-8-2), today, Wednesday, 5 pm, for the sectional championship.
The winner advances to the district semifinals at Genoa High School, Wednesday, Oct. 25, 7 pm.
The district finals are Saturday, Oct. 28, 3 pm, at Genoa.
