AHS Girls Raise Record To 12-6 With Two Wins

The Archbold girls basketball team rebounded from a last-second Jan. 22 loss to Wauseon with two nonleague victories last week to raise its record to 12-6.

The Streaks hosted Springfield, Tuesday, Jan. 27, and handed the Blue Devils their fourth loss of the season with a 61-56 victory.

The Continental Pirates visited the Thunderdome, Thursday, Jan. 29. Archbold won the game easily, 51-25.

AHS 61, Springfield 56

“This was a nice win against a good team,” said Brian Ziegler, AHS head coach. “We received some key contributions out of several girls tonight.

“Cassi Wyse did a nice job on the boards and picked up some scoring.

“Cassidy Williams had a good all-around game. Winter Fricke had a good night off the bench.

“Alexa Coressel and Cayla Walker didn’t score, but gave us some good defense. Alyssa Ziegler got a big steal in our press.”

Archbold led 17-12 after one but was down 28-26 at the half. The Streaks took back the lead, 44-37, after three.

Wyse led AHS with 18 points and eight rebounds. Williams was right behind with 17, including three of the team’s five three-pointers. Fricke was also in double figures, with 10.

Springfield’s Natalie Yoder led all scorers, with 22. Erica Myers added 11 and 17 rebounds.

Archbold was 14-25 from the foul line while the Blue Devils (13-4) were 21-29.

Springfield out-rebounded AHS 38-25, but committed 15 turnovers to Archbold’s 10.

AHS 51, Continental 25

“We moved the ball offensively well tonight,” said B. Ziegler. “We received offense from a lot of girls tonight.

“I thought we were pretty good defensively the first half. We had some nice assists throughout the game and had some nice fast breaks.”

The Streaks led 10-2 after one, 31-8 at the half, and 41- 20 after three.

Ten Blue Streaks scored. Walker was the only AHS player in double figures, leading all scorers with 11 points.

Jade Zachrich led the Pirates, with 10.

Archbold grabbed 26 rebounds, led by Hannah Hesterman’s six. Continental had 16 rebounds, and committed 23 turnovers to Archbold’s 16.

Archbold was 9-12 from the free-throw line while the Pirates were 4-9.
