AHS Girls Play Eagles In Regional Semifinal




Archbold (25-1, #2 AP) played Liberty-Benton (22-3, #8 AP) last night, Tuesday, in a Division III regional semifinal at Ohio Northern University.

The Eagles defeated St. Henry 57-36 in the sectional finals, Fort Recovery 43-37 in the district semifinals, and Columbus Grove (23-2, #5 AP) 61-44 in the district finals.

Liberty-Benton scored only 28 points against Columbus Grove in their regular-season meeting, according to the Findlay Courier newspaper.

In the district championship, the Eagles scored 26 in the second quarter alone.

The Streaks and Eagles have played each other three times in the regional semifinals.

The first time was in 2012, when the Eagles beat AHS 40-32.

The second time was in 2013, when Archbold beat the Eagles 47-36.

The third time was in 2014, when Archbold won 37-33.

Last night’s winner plays tonight’s winner between Columbus Africentric Early College (23-3, #4 AP) and Riverdale (15-11) for a regional championship and a trip to the Final Four.

Africentric defeated Columbus Academy 82-17 in their sectional semifinal, Madison Plains 106-24 in the sectional finals, Newark Catholic 96-26 in the district semifinals, and Cardington-Lincoln 47-35 in the district finals.

Riverdale got to the region- als by defeating Huron 66-55 in the sectional semifinals, Edison 60-51 in the sectional finals, Margaretta 77-72 in the district semifinals, and Willard 65-61 in the district finals.

The regional championship game is Saturday, March 11, 1:30 pm, at Lexington High School.
