Archbold defeated Liberty Center and Patrick Henry in girls basketball action last week to improve to 8-6, 2-1 in the Northwest Ohio Athletic League.

AHS 41, LC 36

The Streaks withstood a comeback attempt at Liberty Center (10-3, 0-2 NWOAL), Thursday, Jan. 21, to come home with a 41-36 NWOAL victory.

Archbold led 20-9 at the half, but the Tigers outscored the Streaks 15-6 in the third period to go into the final eight minutes down by only two, 26-24.

AHS scored 15 points in the fourth quarter to 12 for the Tigers for the five-point win.

“I’m proud of the girls’ effort and thought we played with a lot of heart tonight to get the big win against a good Liberty Center team, especially coming off quarantine,” said Brian Ziegler, AHS head coach.

“It was a physical game with two teams competing hard.

“Karsyn Hostetler and Addison Moyer each hit a pair of free throws to ice the game, which were huge.

“Addi Ziegler had a good offensive game and hit some shots when we needed them.”

A. Ziegler led AHS with 11 points as eight Streaks scored.

LC’s Kate Mohler led all scorers, with 14 points. Cassidy Chapa chipped in 12.

Leah McQuade had five of Archbold’s 19 rebounds.

AHS 42, PHHS 24

The Streaks led 26-8 at the half and 35-13 after three on their way to a 42-24 NWOAL win at Patrick Henry (1-15, 1-3 NWOAL), Saturday, Jan. 23.

“A nice win today to get our second league win of the week,” said B. Ziegler.

“We got good contributions out of a lot of different girls today, which was good to see. I thought our guards did a great job all day pressuring PH, not allowing them to get into their offense.”

The Patriots committed 32 turnovers to 19 for AHS. Archbold won the rebounding battle 17-15, with Kylie Sauder grabbing six.

Sauder led all scorers with 14 points.

McKenzie Vance led the Patriots, with 12 points.
