The Archbold girls basketball team ended the regular season on a high note, winning its last four games to finish 13-7, 5-2 in the Northwest Ohio Athletic League.

The Streaks gave themselves a shot at the league title when they defeated Delta on Feb. 7 and then defeated Evergreen 63-29, Thursday, Feb. 14, at Evergreen.

But the Panthers (17-3) won their second straight NWOAL crown after beating Swanton 57-28 on Thursday and then Bryan 48-28, Saturday, Feb. 16, to finish 5-1 NWOAL.

The Streaks led the Vikings (8-12, 3-3 NWOAL) 15-5 after one, 31-10 at the half, and 49-18 after three.

“This was a good solid win to close out the regular season,” said Brian Ziegler, AHS head coach.

“We were very consistent offensively the entire game with good balance.

“Gabby Nafziger had a nice shooting night, and we made some adjustments in the second half to get the ball into Andi Peterson, who scored 11 points in the second half.

“Lily Krieger didn’t have many scoring opportunities, but rebounded well and made some nice passes out to our shooters.

“We are doing some good things at the right time of the year.”

The Streaks led 10-0 halfway through the first period before the Vikings finally scored on a Mady Peluso deuce.

Archbold went on a 12-0 run over the first five minutes of the second period for a 27-5 lead.

AHS outscored the Vikes 18-8 in the third and 14-11 in the fourth for the 34-point margin of victory.

Ten Blue Streaks got in the scorebook. Peterson led AHS with 17 points, while Nafziger scored 16 and Kylie Sauder had 11.

Evergreen’s Savannah VanOstrand led all scorers, with 20.

AHS won the rebounding battle 29-20, while the Vikings had 16 turnovers to seven for the Streaks.

The Streaks play Liberty Center (7-15) tonight, Wednesday, in a Division III sectional semifinal at Springfield High School.

The winner plays fourthseeded Rossford (13-6) for a sectional title, Saturday, Feb. 23, 2:45 pm, at Springfield.

The winner plays in a district semifinal, Thursday, Feb. 28, 8 pm, at Lake High School.
