Bryan Miller, Archbold head football coach, welcomes back 26 letterwinners to start his second season at the helm of the Blue and Gold.

The Streaks finished last year 6-4, 5-3 in the Northwest Ohio Athletic League.

“Depth, speed, and talent at skill positions are our strengths this year,” said Miller, “along with solid special teams, including a returning all-state kicker and honorable mention allleague punter.

“A lot of varsity experience is back, including the quarterback and linebacker positions. This is a hardworking, motivated, determined group of kids.

“We lack experience on the offensive line, especially at center, and depth and experience at the defensive end positions. Installing a new defense will take time to learn.”

Miller lost 11 seniors from last year’s squad.

League Outlook

Miller thinks Patrick Henry is the team to beat in the NWOAL, but feels the league will be wide open, with Delta much improved from last season.

The Blue and Gold opens the season, Friday, Aug. 27, at home with the Hicksville Aces.

The two squads have history. In 1953, Hicksville dropped Archbold 20-12.

The Blue and Gold holds an 11-3-1 record over the Aces. The last game between the two was played in 1969, with AHS recording a 22-15 victory.

“They are a physical, strong running team,” said Miller. “They are coming off a very successful season and have an excellent coaching staff. They will be a tough opponent.”
