AHS Football Game Changes Trick-Or-Treat Hours On Sat.

Trick-or-treaters will need to get out and get their candy earlier than originally planned, thanks to the Archbold High School football team.

New trick-or-treat hours in the village of Archbold will be from 5-6:30 pm on Halloween, Saturday, Oct. 31. Hours were originally 6-7:30 pm.

The AHS football team battles Columbus Grove in the Division VI, Region 22 regional semifinals that night, beginning at 7 pm.

Hours for trick-or-treating in Pettisville and Ridgeville Corners remain unchanged that night: 6-7 pm in Pettisville and 3-4 pm in Ridgeville.

Pandemic

With the Coronavirus pandemic still impacting the country, the office of Mike DeWine, Ohio governor, and the Ohio Department of Health issued a lengthy set of guidelines and suggestions for Halloween.

“It is strongly recommended that Ohioans exercise caution when deciding to participate in trick-or-treating and other events that put them in close contact with people outside their households,” the guidelines and suggestions say.

“According to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control), traditional trick-or-treating with treats handed out to children who go door to door is a high-risk activity and should be avoided.

“Always wear a face covering and stay 6 feet away from people who are not from your household, whether trick-or-treating, passing out treats, or attending attractions or events.”

Parents, Community

Parents who take their children trick-or-treating are encouraged to limit the number of houses their children visit and to stay as far away from treat-givers as possible.

Wrapped candy should be wiped with sanitizing wipes when families return home, and children should only be allowed to eat factory-wrapped treats.

Avoid homemade treats made by strangers.

Community members should refrain from having children select their own treats from a bowl or common container, or set up a hand sanitizing station.

Another suggestion is to line up individually wrapped bags of treats on porch steps or a table at the edge of a yard, asking children to take only one.

Traffic

Archbold police will close streets in the North Pointe Subdivsion for trick-or-treat, beginning at 5 pm.

All streets in the North Pointe subdivsion will be closed to traffic.

Quail Run will be closed at North Defiance Street.

St. Anne Street will be closed from the Olds Lane intersection to the west. Vehicles can still use St. Anne from North Defiance Street to Olds Lane.

North Pointe Drive will be closed at West Lutz Road.

Traffic will be allowed to enter the Manor Park subdivision, and two-way traffic will be allowed on streets in that neighborhood.

Mari Yoder, Fairlawn Haven Development Director, said there will be no trick or treating at the care center this year.
