Four quarters were not enough for the Archbold-Kalida boys basketball game. With the score tied at 36 after regulation, the Streaks (2-0) outscored the Wildcats 11-6 in overtime to garner a 47-42 non-league victory, Saturday, Dec. 8, at Kalida.
The Wildcats (1-2) had a chance to put the game away in regulation. With 0.7 seconds left on the clock, Cole Miller was sent to the foul line for two shots.
Miller, who was two-forfi ve at the foul line in the fourth quarter up to that point, missed both; on the second miss, an inadvertent whistle gave the ball back to Kalida on the possession arrow.
The Wildcats’ attempt at the buzzer missed as the Streaks prevented them from taking a good shot.
Archbold took control in overtime with a couple of quick baskets by Tyson Schnitkey and Tyson Dietrich.
Zeb Frank, who hit the game winning field goal in Archbold’s season opener, took advantage of the charity stripe in OT to seal the win, hitting 6-6 free throws.
Frank finished with eight points.
Dietrich paced Archbold with 15 points. Luke Fisher chipped in 11.
Austin Horstman and Cody Mathew chipped in 14 and 11 points, respectively, for Kalida.
Archbold led 10-9 after the first eight minutes and 21-16 at the midway point.
Kalida won the second half, outscoring Archbold 20-15 to send the game into overtime.
The Wildcats won the rebounding battle 23-12, but committed 28 turnovers to Archbold’s 12.
The Streaks were 16-45 from the field for 36% and 14-19 at the foul line for 74%. Kalida was 12-29, including five three-pointers, from the field for 41% and 13-21 at the foul line for 62%.
