AHS Boys Soccer Wins Three, Ups Record To 8-2



The Archbold boys varsity soccer team added three wins last week, improving to 8-2 on the season.

The junior varsity edged Miller City 5-4, Monday, Sept. 20, by scoring the winning goal in the final minute, improving its season record to 8-2 as well.

AHS 9, Delta 1

Hosting the Panthers, Tuesday, Sept. 21, the Streaks took a 5-1 halftime lead and never looked back. Aaron Bontrager had a hat trick for Archbold while Adrian Ramirez and Blake Drewes chipped in two goals each.

David Bontrager and Justin Allison rounded out the Streaks’ scoring attack. A. Bontrager garnered three assists with McCaylen Croninger, Jarett Lerma, Ramirez, and Santos Quintanilla adding one each. AHS 5,
Monclova Christian 3

A steady first-half battle led to a 2-2 halftime tie in the Thursday, Sept. 23 match at Spengler Field before the steady Archbold offensive attack proved too much for a strong Monclova defense.

Drewes led Archbold with two goals while Ramirez, A. Bontrager, and Lerma each tallied one. A. Bontrager, Drewes, and Ramirez each assisted once as well.

Archbold out-shot Monclova 13-5, with Clayton Lehman notching two saves at goalkeeper. Kenny Ndouba scored a hat trick for the visitors as they dropped to 3- 3 on the season.

AHS 7, Fremont St. Joe
Central Catholic 2

Fremont traveled to Archbold, Saturday, Sept. 25, looking to avenge an ear- lier loss to the Streaks.

Archbold built a 5-0 halftime lead on two goals each by Lerma and D. Bontrager and a single tally by A. Bontrager.

The second half was evenly played with goals by A. Bontrager and Shae Hernandez for Archbold.

Fremont got on the board after a penalty kick by Paul Wendt and the game’s final goal by Mitch Stierwalt.

Wendt and A. Bontrager both handle placekicking chores for their respective undefeated and state-ranked football teams.

Recording assists for Archbold were A. Bontrager with two, and Lerma, Ramirez, and D. Bontrager, one each.

The Streaks won the shot battle 13-3.
