Stewart Rodger welcomes back 14 letterwinners in his second year as head coach of the Archbold boys soccer team.

The Streaks finished the 2020 season with an 8-9-1 record, and third in the Northwest Ohio Athletic League at 3-2-1.

Returning letterwinners are defenders Colten Beaverson, Tyler Apt, Gabe Short, Ben Dowdy, Karson Rufenacht; midfielders Lance Ramirez, Brodie Dominique, Wyat Fryman, Krayton Kern; strikers Devon Apt, Dane Riley, Ethan Stuckey, Kaden Rufenacht; and goalkeeper Kyler Boulton.

Promising newcomers include Ashton Kammeyer, Madden Valentine, and Jay Riley.

Lost to graduation were Levi Tilse, Parker Vondeylen, Miles Rupp, Trey Theobald, Sean Hageman, Daniel Oyer, and Kenny Williams.

“This is a very close-knit group with good speed and physical strength that will have benefitted from all the game time and experience they received last year,” said Rodger.

“But we have a brand new defense that will need time to settle and gel.

“We are optimistic going into the season. The boys have formed a close bond and are working hard.

“They are a very coachable group, so they will continue to improve throughout the season.

“The NWOAL looks extremely competitive across the board this season. Defending champion Wauseon will be the team to beat, but I expect ourselves, Evergreen, and Bryan to provide stiff opposition.

“In addition, Delta is well coached and can be a handful for anyone on their day.”

The Streaks are scheduled to host Bryan in their season opener, Tuesday, Aug. 24.
