AHS Boys Soccer Beats Miller City, Bluffton

The Archbold boys soccer team hosted Miller City, Monday, Sept. 15, earning a 2-1 victory.

The Bluffton Pirates visited Spengler Field, Thursday, Sept. 18, with the Streaks again prevailing, 3-0.

Archbold traveled to Ottoville, Saturday, Sept. 20, fighting through illness and injury to claim a 1-1 draw with the Big Green.

Archbold stands 7-1-3, 0- 1-1 NWOAL on the season. The Streaks are ranked 12th in Division III by the Ohio Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association in the latest weekly poll.

AHS 2, Miller City 1

Archbold took an early lead when Matt Sevey scored from 12 yards after a pass from freshman Lucas Yoder on the left in the fourth minute.

A steady rain throughout the game led to increasingly sloppy field conditions.

Five minutes after halftime, the Wildcats (2-4-4) evened the score on a Jackson Lammers goal.

With 14 minutes remaining, junior A.J. Short provided the game winner for Archbold, pounding in a goal from 10 yards after a shot by Jeremy Lerma deflected off the keeper.

Jack Fisher started the sequence with a long cross from the right.

The Streaks outshot the visitors 9-8 and led 7-4 in corner kicks.

Archbold goalie Elijah Robison and Wildcat netminder Hunter Berner each saved eight shots on goal.

Archbold won the junior varsity game 3-2 with goals by Kyle Ott, Gerson Calderon, and Jared Kidder.

AHS 3, Bluffton 0

Archbold junior defender Mike Weigand notched a goal in the 16th minute, finishing from 4 yards after Fisher headed a Yoder corner kick that bounced around the goal mouth.

Sevey added to the lead 12 minutes after halftime, breaking away from the Bluffton defenders after a steal before chipping the ball over the charging Pirate goalie for the score.

Yoder capitalized on another Blue Streak steal, scoring from 20 yards on the left with 17 minutes to go after outmaneuvering his defender.

Bluffton (3-4-2) managed three shots on goal, all saved by Robison.

Archbold mustered eight shots on goal, with Pirate goalie Joseph Schriner saving five.

The Streaks held the edge on corner kicks, 4-2.

Archbold (8-0-1) nipped the Pirate JVs 2-1 with goals by Gerson Calderon and Ott.

AHS 1, Ottoville 1

Short knocked in a goal in the fourth minute from 8 yards out with Fisher assisting to give the Streaks the early lead.

The Big Green (5-1-4) responded, scoring four minutes before the break when Joel Beiring’s shot deflected off a Streak defender before finding the net.

The teams traded shots throughout the second half, but the 1-1 halftime score remained until the final buzzer.

Each team had four shots on goal, while Archbold notched four corner kicks to Ottoville’s two.

Robison grabbed three saves as did Big Green goalie Colin Bendele.
