AHS Boys Open NWOAL Season With Win Over Swanton



Archbold won its Northwest Ohio Athletic League boys basketball opener and a non-league contest over Ottawa Hills to run its record to 9-2, 1-0 NWOAL.

Ranked 10th in Division III in the second state poll of the season, Archbold had no trouble with Swanton, 53-28, and dropped Ottawa Hills 68-50.

The Streaks jumped out to an 11-3 lead after one and coasted to the easy win, Thursday, Jan. 11, at Swanton.

Archbold extended the difference to 16 points to go into the halftime up 29-13.

The Streaks outscored Swanton 12-7 in the third and closed it out for good with a 12-8 fourth quarter.

Jeron Williams dropped four of the Blue Streaks’ nine three-pointers to lead all scorers with 12 points.

Austin Wiemken added 11.

Hunter Mix led Swanton (4-7, 0-1 NWOAL), which dropped its fifth straight game, with 11.

AHS 68, Ottawa Hills 50

Playing its second road game of the week, Archbold used a quick start to take down the Green Bears (5-5), Saturday, Jan. 13.

The Streaks opened a 26- 10 first-quarter lead that held up throughout the game.

Archbold was up 40-28 at the half and 58-41 after three.

Rigo Ramos led a quartet of Blue Streaks in double digits with 16 points, including four of the team’s nine threes.

Bryce Williams added 11. Caleb Wooley and Wiemken posted 10 each.

Eliot Cummings paced the Green Bears with 12 points.

The Streaks were a redhot 61% from the field (23- 38) while Ottawa Hills was 52% (16-31). Archbold had 17 rebounds and 12 turnovers to 15 rebounds and 18 turnovers for the Green Bears.
