AHS Boys Cross Country Fifth At Antwerp Invite

The Archbold boys cross country teams placed fifth out of 10 teams in the Antwerp Cross Country Invitational, Saturday Oct. 4.

The Blue Streaks finished with 110 points. Tinora won with a score of 67. Second was Fairview with 86; Antwerp also had 86 but placed third.

The AHS girls finished eighth. Ottoville captured the girls title with a low score of 37. Fairview was second with 75; rounding out the top three was Antwerp with 97.

“I was surprised at Antwerp,” said Mike Wachtmann, AHS coach. “It did not look like we were running our best, but 10 of the 13 athletes put down their best performances of the season. This was unexpected because we have just started the end of season peaking.

“The first question is usually, ‘Was that a short course?’ But indications are that it must have been pretty close to a full 5K.

“I am very excited to turn them loose next week at the Northwest Ohio Athletic League meet.”
