AHS Boys Beat Tigers, Panthers

Archbold (16-0) took another step to its first Northwest Ohio Athletic League boys basketball title since 2016– when it was co-champion with Wauseon– and first outright title since 2012 when the Streaks buried Liberty Center 86-35, Friday, Feb. 1, in the Thunderdome.

The Streaks got off to a fast start, taking a commanding 30-10 first-quarter lead 49- 23 at the break.

Archbold built a 68-35 advantage after three and scored 18 points in the fourth while Tigers were blanked.

The Streaks raised their NWOAL record to 4-0, while the Tigers dropped to 4-9, 1- 3 NWOAL.

Archbold’s Rigo Ramos led all scorers with 17 points, including three of the team’s six three-pointers. Ethan Hagans added 13, while Austin Wiemken and Jeron Williams scored 11 points each.

Carter Burdue led the Tigers with eight points.

AHS 59, Stryker 47

Archbold took all that Stryker had to offer in their non-conference contest, but the Streaks handed the Panthers their fourth defeat of the season.

AHS held a slim 18-14 lead after one and maintained the four-point lead going into the half, 27-23.

The Panthers (12-4) would not go quietly and trailed by six at the end of the third, 44-38.

Stryker pulled within four, 44-40, early in the fourth, but Archbold went on an 8-0 run to pull ahead 52-40 and hold off the pesky Panthers.
