The Archbold Acme baseball squad scored a pair of shutouts in the District 2 tournament that took place, Saturday, July 8, at Patrick Henry.
The Streaks defeated Miller City 5-0 in the first game and reached the winner’s bracket final by thumping Ottawa-Glandorf 12-0.
The original start of the district tournament was pushed back a day due to inclement weather.
The district final against Ottawa-Glandorf, the winner of the loser’s bracket, was rescheduled to yesterday, Tuesday, 4 pm, due to inclement weather on Monday.
Archbold 5, Miller City 0
Archbold used a three-run third inning to take control of the game and added two more runs in the fifth to capture a 5-0 win and move into the winner’s bracket final.
Nic Rodriguez and Jeron Williams led the Streaks at the plate with three singles each.
Bryce Williams had a double; Gabe Petersen, Kade Kern and Rigo Ramos all had singles.
Ramos pitched six strong innings for the win, giving up one hit with five strikeouts.
Archbold 12, O-G 0
The Streaks moved one step closer to a state berth with a 12-0 throttling of Ottawa Glandorf.
Archbold led 2-0 after the third, then piled on 10 runs over the final three innings.
Petersen had three hits, including a triple and two singles, to lead the Blue and Gold.
Rodriguez and Brandon Miller each had a pair of singles. B. Williams, Kern, Holden Galvan, Travis Ziegler, Mitch Grosjean, and Bryce Taylor each had a single.
Trevor Rupp pitched six innings and had seven strikeouts for the win on the mound.
