Pettisville led Defiance 4-2 after the first inning, but Defiance scored four runs in the second and six in the third on its way to a 25-6 rout, Wednesday, July 9 in the District 1 ACME baseball tournament at Defiance High School.

Defiance scored twice in the fifth and 11 runs in the sixth inning, invoking the mercy rule.

Quinn Nofziger was the losing pitcher. In 2 2/3 innings he allowed 12 runs on seven hits, struck out four, and walked three. Zane Miller, Harris King, and Jordan Klopfenstein pitched in relief.

Pettisville had six hits and was led by Klopfenstein with two doubles and Clay Norris with one double.

Tinora 10, Archbold 9

In its district tourney game at Defiance, Wednesday, July 9, Archbold led 8-4 going into the bottom of the seventh, but the Rams scored four runs to knot the score at 8.

Tinora was down 8-7, had two outs and the bases packed, when Dillon Cereghin hit a single that appeared to score the winning run.

Archbold protested whether the Tinora base runner at second base had run all the way to third base. After deliberating, the home plate umpire called the Tinora runner out for not running all the way to third.

The Streaks scored in the top of the eighth on Trey Westrick’s run-batted-in double to take a 9-8 lead.

Tinora’s Trey Meyer brought Joe Bodenbender home from third to tie the score at 9, then won when Meyer stole second and Beilharz brought Meyer home on a single to right field.

Steven Kinsman was the losing pitcher. In two innings he allowed three runs on three hits, struck out none, and walked three. David Rupp pitched in relief.

Archbold had nine hits, led by Westrick with a single and a double, and Corey Walker, with two singles, a double, and three RBIs.

Archbold 2, Bryan 1

Archbold defeated Bryan 2-1, Thursday, July 10 to stay alive in the District 1 ACME tourney.

The game was tied at 1 going into the sixth inning. Kinsman hit a single, followed by Rupp hitting a grounder to Bryan’s shortstop. But the Bear’s throw to second was high, and Kinsman moved to third. He scored the winning run when Bryan’s Brennan Crist threw a wild pitch.

Walker was the winning pitcher. In seven innings he allowed one run on five hits, struck out six, and walked one.

Archbold had nine hits and were led by David Dominique, three singles, and Kinsman, two singles.

Pettisville 10, Edon 1

Leading 5-0 after two innings, Pettisville scored five more runs in the fourth and fifth innings while Edon mustered only one run in the fifth for the 10-1 victory at Bryan, Thursday, July 10.

Klopfenstein was the winning pitcher.

Pettisville had 10 hits, led by Nofziger with two doubles; Klopfenstein, two singles and a double; and Miller, two singles.

Pettisville 5, Archbold 4

King drew a bases-loaded walk for Pettisville in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Birds a 5-4 victory over Archbold in the district ACME tourney at Defiance, Saturday, July 12.

Pettisville led 2-0 after the first inning before Archbold tied the score with two runs in the fourth. Both teams scored twice in the sixth for the tie score at 4 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning.

Nofziger was the winning pitcher. In seven innings he allowed four runs on five hits, struck out two, and walked two.

Walker was the losing pitcher. In 1 1/3 innings he allowed one run on four hits, struck out none, and walked two.

Archbold had five hits and were led by Dominique with two singles and Kinsman, two singles and two RBIs.

Pettisville had eight hits and were led by Nofziger, three singles and double; Klopfenstein, two singles; Miller, three singles, one RBI; Jared Avina, a double and an RBI; and Jacob Rupp, a double.
