91% Of Third Graders Pass Reading Standard At Pettisville Schools

Jason Waldvogel, Pettisville Elementary School principal, said during the district board meeting, Monday, Jan. 18, that 91% of Pettisville third grade students have already met the standards for the state reading guarantee.

Only three students still need to pass the test, he said.

Waldvogel also said that kindergarten registration is planned for April 9, similar to past years.

Parents or guardians will need to contact the school to pre-register their student for kindergarten.

Open enrollment students will have their paperwork date stamped so if the classes fill up, those who register first will be considered first.

Box Tops for Education participation is down somewhat, Waldvogel said. Students bring tops of cereal boxes, which school officials can redeem for cash.

He said the district is approaching $20,000 in income from the program over the years.

Ken Boyer, interim superintendent, said the Fulton County Health Department notified the district that school staff will soon be eligible for COVID-19 vaccinations.

Those staff members who want the vaccination have begun to sign up.

Boyer said the last time he checked, about 50% of the staff had signed up to get the vaccine.

He expects the vaccinations to be available in February or March.

The board also approved formally joining the Ohio High School Athletic Association, which serves as the governing board for interscholastic athletic competitions.
